Tribulations of Tourism

Tribulations of Tourism is a documentary style photography exhibition consisting of 5 diptychs that showcase the duality of popular tourist destinations. The aim of this project is to highlight the differences between the main tourist areas and the local communities of the same cities.

The diptychs are presented as pairs, with one image showing the main tourist strip of the city, and the other showing a more local part of the same city. I believe that this contrast is a powerful way to emphasize the disparity between tourists and locals in these locations.

I have selected five locations for my project: Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Washington D.C., and Honolulu. These locations were chosen because they have areas that are catered highly to tourists, while often neglecting the local communities. I believe that the differences between the tourist areas and the local areas are most drastic in these locations, making them ideal subjects for my series.

Through my exhibition, I hope to raise awareness of the challenges faced by local communities in areas that are heavily reliant on tourism. I believe that this is an important issue that needs to be addressed, and I hope my photography can be a tool to bring attention to it.
